In Wadi Mousa, Jordan, next to Petra.
Imagine in the afternoon, round ’bout 4, a collection of people gather on the front porch of my hotel, drinking tea* and conversating. Along with other folks from the town, a young imam & an influential local businessman & a few mothers and kids, and local workers, all enjoying tea* and conversation, mostly in English, thank God, with translation pauses!
We speak of the Christians and the Muslims and the Hindus. The Bible and the Quran and the Psalms! Excellent for Muslims! The Psalms are the non-political part of the Bible. In the Quran the ‘separate’ books of the Bible are the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Psalms, each at equal level as the other two. There are Three Books in the Bible. All are part of the Quran. It is the Books which make up the Quran. We spoke of the Sunnah (historical sayings of the Prophet) and Taqwa (being cognizant of God) and Tauba (repentance) and meditation in yoga (the top four steps from the Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras), as the same as prayer in Islam (raqat). We also speak of his work as an shipping logistics engineer, the Chief, at the docks of Aquba. We talk logistics, from the Army and JWARS. His son, around 17, is getting interested in university and women. We speak of his freedom to choose his own met wife..what events are there, to introduce men and women and allow interaction? They do so!
I proposed that all Muslims are automatically Christian as they believe in Jesus (Issa) as the Messiah who will return, one with God. A perfect man in whom they must have the faith of prophets. These are the requirements as set forth in the Quran and the Bible, as we must believe in him, so if they believe in Christ Jesus correctly, they have a chance at Paradise. They are missing that God’s Holy Spirit was the Christ, In Jesus. Same as Christians. This upset the Imam greatly… oh well, mission accomplished! 👹👹👹
I am both Christian and Muslim, and Vedantic Hindu, likewise. I am also quite Evangelical. The Imam does not like what has been shared about his religion, backed up by verse even.
The businessman, Ali, does! Much! Invites me to join them for Friday feast, after Jumma prayer. We had a Jordanian Chicken-Yogurt Soup over rice. Yum! Has any ever heard of a white blackberry bush? Well, he had one, alongside an apricot tree. They have these freeze dried yogurt cubes, so good.
